A deep-dive guide for new players and a quick refresher for the veterans.
If you grew up in the Philippines, chances are you've played Tongits at a family gathering, inside a sari-sari store, or during a lazy Sunday afternoon. It's that game — the one where everyone's either winning big or blaming their luck, with a lot of noise in between.
Tongits is a draw-and-discard card game played by three players using a standard 52-card deck. The goal is simple: get rid of all your cards before the other players do, or have the lowest point total when the game ends. Cards are ranked by their face value, and you form melds — sets of three or more cards of the same rank, or sequences of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
What makes Tongits special compared to other rummy-style games is the "Tongits" call — when a player runs out of cards completely, they win outright. If no one gets a Tongits, the game ends when the draw pile runs out, and the player with the lowest total card points takes the pot. Strategic meld formation, knowing when to "fight" (challenge another player's Tongits call), and reading when to dump high-value cards — that's where the real skill lives.
At help slots, we've brought the full Tongits experience online with fast-loading tables, real-money action starting from just ₱50, and a clean mobile interface that works great even on an older Android phone.
New to the game? Here's everything you need to get started and win your first hand.
One player deals 12 cards to each of the three players. The dealer gets 13 cards. The remaining cards form the draw pile at the center.
Arrange your hand into sets (three or more cards of the same rank) or sequences (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit). These are your melds.
On your turn, draw a card from the pile or pick up the top discard. Then discard one card face-up. Build your melds and reduce your hand's total point value.
Once you have a valid meld, you can lay it down on the table. You can also add cards to other players' exposed melds — a move called "burning" a card.
If you have no more cards left in hand, you call "Tongits" and win instantly. Other players can "fight" the call if they believe they have a lower point count.
The player with the lowest remaining points after all melds are counted wins the round. At help slots, winnings are credited to your account instantly.
Understanding how card points are counted is the key to winning consistently.
| Card | Point Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ace (A) | 1 point | Lowest value, great to hold |
| 2 – 9 | Face value | Straightforward point count |
| 10, J, Q, K | 10 points each | Dump these early if unmelded |
| Set of 3 (same rank) | Valid Meld | E.g., three 7s from any suit |
| Set of 4 (same rank) | Valid Meld | Powerful — clears four cards at once |
| Sequence of 3+ (same suit) | Valid Meld | E.g., 5♠ 6♠ 7♠ |
| Tongits (empty hand) | Instant Win | Automatic victory — no fight needed |
Face cards (10, J, Q, K) all carry 10 points. If you're holding too many of these without a meld, it's usually better to discard them early and keep low-value cards to minimise your point total in case of an end-game showdown.
When the draw pile runs out, everyone reveals their unmelded cards. Lowest points take the pot.
If another player calls Tongits and you think you have fewer remaining points, you can fight the call. Lower points wins the fight.
You can discard a card that fits into an opponent's exposed meld. This counts as your discard for that turn.

These aren't just textbook tips — these are the plays that regulars at help slots actually use to stay ahead.
Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Tens each carry 10 points. If you can't immediately form a meld with them, get rid of them in the first few turns. Holding onto dead weight costs you the round.
Your opponents' discards tell you a lot about their hand. If someone keeps throwing 7s, they probably don't have a 7-heavy meld — which might mean you can complete yours safely.
Fighting a Tongits call when you're not sure you'll win is risky. Calculate your remaining card points before challenging. A badly timed fight can cost you the pot.
Burning a card into an opponent's exposed meld can save you when you have no valid discard and don't want to break a potential meld in your own hand.
A four-card sequence is better than a three-card one because it's harder for opponents to predict. Try to build melds that can expand as you draw new cards.
